After several years of planning we finally left behind the world of commuting for 4.5 hours a day and achieved our long-term dream of relocating to the Lake District. We'd been holidaying in the region for many years and love all it has to offer.
Skiddaw Croft became our home at the end of September 2015 and we certainly hit the ground running with a full house on our first night! Luckily we had spent some wonderful time at Coedllys Country House B&B taking part in a residential Bed & Breakfast course run by Val & Keith Harber. That, as well as passing a food hygiene standards course and years of experience with members of the public in our previous jobs, helped to prepare us for all aspects of being B&B hosts.
During a short break in January/February 2016 we started our refurbishment of the property, giving it some much needed TLC. We can now add painter and decorator to our CV’s! We also had help from some excellent local tradespeople for the more specialised repairs. We hope that guests will love all the improvements to the first floor bedrooms as well as the sitting room and breakfast room. We have also revamped our garden with new seating areas and landscaping. We spent the Winter of 2016/2017 redecorating the top 3 bedrooms bringing these three rooms up to the standard we have already done for the first floor rooms. We have also renewed the radiators in most of the rooms to provide better warmth for the colder days. We can say we are providing a brand new experience from top to bottom.
We feel that we are very lucky coming to Portinscale. We have met some wonderful people who have always been willing to give us help when we have needed it and who have supported us in our new venture. We have also met some great guests in the short time we have been open and we know we have made the right choice in starting our new life in the Lake District.
We look forward to welcoming you to our home very soon.
Sue and Steve Harries
